Stanhope Centennial Vintage Fashion Show and Tea Benefits Local Charity

Step back in time on Sunday, October 3, at the Whistling Swan Inn, 110 Main Street in Stanhope. From 1 to 3 PM the Inn will host a centennial celebration for the Stanhope borough. The yearlong celebration has included many community events, a centennial cookbook and a concert series.

The Centennial Fashion Show will feature models showing over 35 turn-of-the-century, reproduction and vintage outfits. The complete ensemble was conceived and designed by Teresa Mankin of Teresa's Pennie Wise Décor" at her 1876 barn and studio.
"I thoroughly enjoy sewing and creating 1800's, 1900's and turn of the century women's clothing. I have always had a love for Victorian clothing." says Ms. Mankin, also the organizer of the event. She has created clothing vignettes, which include bathing attire, a Gibson girl, a nightshirt, complete with slippers cap, and candleholder, a boy's sailor suit, a wedding gown. All outfits are complete with authentic accessories such as shoes, handbags, parasols, hats and gloves. In addition to the fashion show, guests will be entertained with songs of the period performed by Jacqueline Kroschell, Cameo Productions of Sparta. The afternoon's festivities shall be held on the verandah and in the gardens of the 1905 Victorian home, which now houses the Whistling Swan Inn Bed and Breakfast.

Some of the high tea menu will consist of biscuits with raspberry jam, lemon poppy muffins, petit scones, smoked salmon on black bread, date bread with cream cheese, pecan shortbread and chocolate dipped strawberries.

The admission fee is $25 per person. Ms. Mankin has arranged for a portion of the proceeds to be donated to A Town With A Heart Fund.
