Elvis Still Lives at the Chatterbox Drive-in

The Skylands region of New Jersey, is filled with hidden gems. While shopping for carpet recently, my friend, Joanne, took me to her favorite haunt, the Chatterbox Drive-In, which is located in Augusta, only 20 minutes away from my bed and breakfast, the Whistling Swan Inn.

Lunch at the Chatterbox is like stepping onto the set of “American Graffiti”. A large, circular seating area surrounds a platform, which displays a classic car, motorcycle or hot rod, all circa late 50’s or early 60’s. Playing in the background while I ate my Craisy Chicken Salad, was the Motown Sound, Elvis and Fats Domino, and owner, Don Hall, made his rounds to every table. From Memorial Day to Labor Day there’s even carhop service, except on Saturday nights when they have “Cruise Night”

On Saturday, July 13th, Henry Winkler (aka the Fonz) will be at the Chatterbox, arriving at 3:00 pm. So, pull your leather jacket out of mothballs and be there or be square.
